FAQ

CRYPTOCARDS

I've heard a lot about "blockchain", "cryptocurrencies" and "Bitcoin" lastly but I'm getting confused. Can you give me a brief definition of how bitcoin and its blockchain work?
Of course. Bitcoin is the first decentralized open source peer-to-peer payment network that operates on a cryptographic protocol. The Bitcoin network is a consensus network that enables a new payment system and digital money. Transactions are recorded into a distributed public database (the blockchain!), with consensus achieved by a proof-of-work system called mining. The blockchain is distributed internationally using peer-to-peer file sharing technology (similar to BitTorrent). Bitcoin is powered by its users with no central authority or middlemen. The network is made up of users like you and me so no bank or payment processor is required between you and whoever you're trading with (cool right?). This decentralization is the basis for Bitcoin's security and freedom. It's an open source technology and anyone can be a part of the Bitcoin network. In fact, Bitcoin is the biggest opportunity for innovation that the world has seen since the Internet. An idea whose time has come!

What problem do cryptocards aim to solve?
Ease of access: We noticed that many people refuse to enter the world of cryptocurrencies because they can't have them in their hands or think it is too difficult to master which is understandable. But whether you want to introduce yourself, family members or friends to cryptocurrencies, cryptocards are the perfect mean to easily do so and start to understand the basics.
Maximum security: At the same time, cryptocards also allow to keep cryptocurrencies safe from any sort of vulnerabilities or cyber-attacks on software, hardware or online crypto-exchanges. Offline storage is actually the safest way to store cryptocurrencies.

How do cryptocards work

Every card has its own unique key pair: the public address and the private key. They are both printed in QR-code and text form. The public key is on the front of your card, whereas the private key is hidden under the scratch-off panel, in order to hide it from prying eyes. The public address is used to receive coins and the private key allows to send coins out of your wallet.

Why is it the safest way to store cryptocurrency?
It is a "cold storage" aka "offline storage" wallet, the most secure cryptocurrency storage solution. Termed "cold storage" as your keys are not (and never have been) stored on a "hot" device or online exchange that is (or has been) connected to the internet.

How do I check the balance of my card?

Transactions and wallet balance can be viewed on the blockchain using your public address and your favourite blockchain explorer  (https://www.blockchain.com/explorer for example)

How do I add funds?

Simply send coins to your public address. Wait for a few minutes for your transaction to be added to the blockchain. Cheaper and much faster than a bank transfer, impressive right?

How do I withdraw funds/send them to another address?
There are many ways to do so. The easiest one is to import the private key into your favourite wallet app (phone) or software (PC) and to 'sweep' the funds. Most wallets have an integrated option for this. It is very straightforward.

How do you generate key pairs?
The key pairs are securely generated following industry NIST, ISO27001 and PCI security guidelines on Linux distribution (TAILS, an amnesic and live operating system) with no internet access. This way, we make sure that no private key can be stolen or it stays saved somewhere. All the keys are deleted after they have been successfully printed on the card. At this point we want to remind you that, you should make use of the possibility we offer to provide us with your own encrypted private key or seed. Generally speaking: do not trust, encrypt!

Are cryptocards the same size as standard credit card size?
Yes! The cryptocards dimensions are CR80 Standard.
